چکیده

Objective: Parietal and the visceral layers of mesothelium are separated by a thin layer lubricating fluid made up single flat cells. The three body cavities pleura, peritoneum, pericardium lined mesothelium. collection inside these is called an effusion may be due to variety inflammatory, infective, neoplastic causes often reactive mesothelial cells hyperplasia that sometimes very hard differentiate from malignant epithelial in cytopathological examinations fluids. Methods: We studied utility Human Battifora Mesothelial Epitope-1 (HBME1) immunostain conditions. All fluids various effusions collected at department pathology, tertiary care institute Lucknow were included study. Detailed history, examination findings, blood investigations, imaging histopathology reports also noted. Fluids showed and/or on microscopic further analyzed application HBME1 cell block. Results: A total 50 finally including 30 cases positive group 20 group. Out group, 16 (53.33%) immunoreactive for HBME1, out 18 (90%) immunoreactivity HBME1. Conclusion: Observing this we can conclude was significantly associated with presence compared

The use of immunohistochemistry to distinguish reactive mesothelial cells from malignant mesothelioma in cytologic effusions.

BACKGROUND The distinction of benign from malignant mesothelial proliferations in cytologic specimens can be problematic. In this study, the authors investigated the utility of immunohistochemical (IHC) markers in making this distinction. METHODS Archival paraffin-embedded cell blocks of pleural and peritoneal fluids from 52 patients with malignant mesothelioma (MM) and 64 patients with react...

Langerhans Cells in Skin Lesions of Leprosy

Background: Langerhans cells are important in the pathogenesis of leprosy.  A recent study reported that these cells were almost absent in the epidermis overlying lepromatous lesions. Objective: To investigate a possible relationship between the number of Langerhans cells and the histopathologic spectrum of lesions in patients with leprosy. Methods: An immunohistochemical staining for S100 prot...

Identification of Malignant Cells in Serous Fluids Using a Panel of Monoclonal Cytokeratin Antibodies, Epithelial Membrane Antigen(EMA) , Carcino Embryonic Antigen (CEA)

Abstract Background and Objective: Identification of malignant cells and the type of malignancy in Effusionsis very important. The main aim of this study was to differentiate between reactive mesothelial cells and malignant cells and to determine the type of the tumor cells in effusions with the aid of tumor markers Creatine Kinase (CK), EMA and CEA. Material and Methods: Forty serous flui...

Ultrastructure of pleural mesothelioma and pulmonary adenocarcinoma in malignant effusions as compared with reactive mesothelial cells.

OBJECTIVE To determine the ultrastructural features of diffuse malignant pleural mesothelioma cells in cytologic specimens from pleural effusions. STUDY DESIGN We retrospectively studied 35 pleural effusions: 12 diffuse malignant pleural mesotheliomas (8 epithelial type, 4 biphasic type), 12 pulmonary adenocarcinomas and 11 cases of reactive mesothelial cells. RESULTS In the cytoplasm, reac...
